THE BRITISH INVASION


     The British Invasion was a phenomenon that occurred in the mid-1960s when rock and pop music acts from the United Kingdom, as well as other aspects of British culture, became popular in the United States, and significant to the rising "counterculture" on both sides of the Atlantic. Pop and rock groups such as the Beatles, the Dave Clark Five, the Kinks, the Rolling Stones, Herman's Hermits, and the Animals were at the forefront of the invasion.





 THE BEATLES


The Beatles were one of the most important pop-rock bands of all time. They started as a band in Liverpool, 1960.The band used to have four members; Paul McCartney, playing the bass guitar; John Lennon, playing the guitar; Ringo Starr with the drums and George Harrison as another guitarrist
   
 
 
Their first album was called ‘Please Please Me’ and it was such a hit, and they became the pioneers of the British Invasion, making it possible to another bands such as The Rolling Stones.





                                      THE ROLLING STONES

The Rolling Stones is a rock band from London, created in 1962 having as members the well-known Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood.
   

They have had a successful career all over the world during decades and they still together playing with more than 70 years which makes people feel like they still on their teenage years!



       THE ZOMBIES

The Zombies were one of the best groups of the British invasion. In 1964 when won a competition they signed a contract with the discotheque Decca. Tito Burns became his representative.
This group was composed by: Rod Argent, Paul Atkinson, Chris White, Hugh Grundy and Colin Blunstone. They are known by their combination and vocal harmony. The first single from the Zombies was "She's Not There".
A well-known song is “The time of the season”.



THE WHO


The Who is a british band formed in 1964. They have been one of the most iconic bands of rock of the history, selling over 100 million records worldwide. They used to destroy guitars and drums at stage, wich was the reason why they conseiderated themselves as “auto-destructive art”
The Who started being famous by singing in a club in London, attracting the atention of a musical producer.





THE YARDBIRDS 


One of the most important groups in Great Britain of the 60's is The Yardbirds, was created in 1963. The band split in 1968, although they returned to activity in the 1990s. His current members are Jim McCarty, John Idan, Johnny A., Kenny Aaronson, Myke Scavone. 
Their first album was “Five Live Yardbirds” (1964). A good song is “Smokestack Lightning”.





THE ANIMALS

The group emerged in Newcastle in the early 1960s.
They liked black music. Over the years, his sound has tended toward psychedelia, recording albums in one style or another.
Its current components are John Steel, Mick Gallagher, Danny Handley, Roberto Ruiz.
One of his best hits and songs is
"The House of the Rising Sun".
 

THE KINKS

One of the most important bands that appeared in the British Invasion of the 60s was The Kinks. The Kinks was a British original rock band in 1963. After several changes in the group.
This band was formed by the brothers Ray and Dave Davies. 
Original members Peter Quaife and Mick Avory  were later replaced.

 

 

One of his best hits is his third single "You Really Got Me".



        The Second British Invasion refers to music acts from the United Kingdom that became popular in the United States from the middle of 1982 into late 1986, primarily due to the cable music channel MTV. The term derives from the similar British Invasion of the U.S. in the 1960s. While acts with a wide variety of styles were part of the invasion, it was mainly synthpop and new wave influenced acts that predominated. During the late 1980s, glam metal and dance music replaced Second Invasion acts atop the U.S. charts.


BIG COUNTRY

Big Country was a rock band formed by Stuart Adamson in Scotland in 1981.
The band was formed by Adamson ... Bruce Watson, Clive Parker, Tony Butler and Mark Brzezicki.
The first single they released was "Fields of Fire" and later they released another called "Harvest Home", this one reached to the Top Ten in England, this single was unique by the arrangements of guitars of Celtic inspiration.
The last album was "Come Up Screaming". The following year, Adamson was found dead in a hotel room in Hawaii.




The band's biggest hit was the single "In A Big Country" from the album "Crossing".

THE POWER STATION

The Power Station
was a 1980s supergroup made up of singer Robert Palmer, former Chic drummer Tony Thompson, and Duran Duran members John Taylor (bass) and Andy Taylor (guitar). Bernard Edwards, also of Chic, was involved on the studio side as recording producer and for a short time also functioned as The Power Station's manager. Edwards also replaced John Taylor on bass for the recording of the supergroup's follow-up album. The band was formed in New York City late in 1984 during a break in Duran Duran's schedule that became a lengthy hiatus. The Power Station was named after The Power Station recording studio where their album was conceived and record

ARCADIA

Arcadia were a new wave British group formed in 1985 by Simon Le Bon, Nick Rhodes, and Roger Taylor who was a component of Duran Duran as a side project during a break in that band's schedule.
Their drummer didn’t appear with them, but he was in their songs.





PET SHOP BOYS

Pet Shop Boys are an English electronic pop duo, formed in London in 1981 and consisting of Neil Tennant (main vocals, keyboards, occasional guitar) and Chris Lowe (keyboards, occasional vocals).


Pet Shop Boys have sold more than 50 million records worldwide, and are listed as the most successful duo in UK music history by The Guinness Book of Records. Three-time Brit Award winners and six-time Grammy nominees, since 1985 they have achieved forty-two Top 30 singles and 22 Top 10 hits in the UK Singles Chart, including four UK number ones: "West End Girls" (also number one on the US Billboard Hot 100), "It's a Sin", an acclaimed cover of "Always on My Mind" and "Heart".


MADNESS

Madness was created in 1976, it is one of the most important British groups.
   

 
 
In the late 1970s and early 1980s the group achieved most of their successes, remaining more weeks on the British charts than any other group, one of their greatest hits is the album "The Liberty of Norton Folgate".


THE PRETENDERS

They are an English -but from USA as well- band who was created in 1978. They have had so many differnet members al over their career just because one of their members died in a drug-related way.
 
 
 
 
Hynde, the only component that has been in the band since the start, launched a solo career in 2014, and the Pretenders were dormant as a band between 2012 and 2016. However, The Pretenders are once again active, having issued an album in and toured in 2016.


THE STYLE
 
COUNCIL

The Style Council is a group that embraced several styles. In 1983 the group was formed as a duo, by Paul Weller and Mike Talbot. In 1984, at age 18 he joined the group Steve White, and later Steve joined Dee C. Lee.
In 1985 came the greatest hits of "The Style Council", with the album "Our Favorite Shop".
   


In 1989 the band began to separate, with the last album "Modernism", "A New Decade". Little by little each one of the group began to prepare his musical race in solitary.
